The countdown is on! Memorial Day is only one month away! As part of the ABA Veterans Legal Services Initiative, we encourage you to honor the nation’s fallen and build on the success of the National Celebration of Pro Bono by planning and participating in service events for veterans on or around Memorial Day (May 29) 2017. Legal barriers often keep veterans from receiving their rightful benefits and services, and many have unique legal needs in areas including family law, consumer law, housing, employment, criminal law, guardianships and conservatorships, administrative challenges resulting from service, and other matters.

Visit our National Celebration website here for planning ideas and examples of some of the nearly 100 veterans legal services events held during the 2016 National Celebration of Pro Bono.  Examples of popular veterans legal services events include estate planning clinics, benefits clinics, and CLE sessions.

The ABA will make special efforts to recognize the valuable pro bono contributions of lawyers across the country through a little friendly competition and a social media blitz using the hashtag #ABAServingVeterans.

Also, to spotlight your impressive efforts, the ABA is collecting short, informal videos that describe your pro bono legal service for veterans, and will display them prominently during the ABA Annual Meeting in New York City. Click here to learn more!
